The Grounded Expat
Created by a licensed clinical social worker

Feel grounded, wherever you land.

Same path. Different journeys.

You can love where you are and still end up standing in a grocery store, unable to find one ordinary thing, closer to tears than makes any sense. Nothing has gone wrong. That is the part of moving abroad people don’t talk about much, and it’s what these journals are for.

Practical tools for the emotional side of living abroad: homesickness, culture shock, identity shifts, loneliness, and starting over. Real psychology, no therapy-speak.

Stephanie Johnson, LICSW — founder of The Grounded Expat
Who’s behind it

Hi, I’m Stephanie. I’m a licensed clinical social worker with nearly twenty years in human services, and I’ve spent the last few years living the expat life myself, across Southeast Asia and South America.

Most of my clinical work has been with trauma, grief, identity and life transitions, and one of my formal areas of focus is shame and self-criticism. Which turns out to be exactly what this is about. Almost everyone I hear from arrives at some version of the same sentence: I chose this, so what is wrong with me for finding it hard.

I built Anchor Point Partners to help companies support the people they move around the world. The Grounded Expat is the other half of that mission: the same clinical depth, made directly for you.
